It's a close-up of a Ruru wearing a towel bundled like a headscarf. The towel has thick stripes of white and mint green like a Celtic FC supporter. The owl's eyes are golden-beeswax yellow and highly suspicious of the camera operator, spying from within the shade of the towel. The whole thing is vaguely like the meme of Homer Simpson receding into the bushes.

Original text:

A little ruru, or morepork, stares into the camera while being weighed at a vet clinic in New Plymouth during a few days of tender loving care.

The bird was brought in to the New Plymouth Vet Group by members of the public after being found on the side of the road in the Lepperton area, north of New Plymouth.

Veterinarian Nicola Williams said she had x-rayed it and hadn’t found any broken bones, but they had to make sure it could eat and fly. […]

This ruru was released on Monday afternoon.
