This ruru is all eyes. Its pupils are so dilated that only a thin ring of yellow is visible; any wider and there would be no iris left to admire. The eyes are very reflective, revealing the ceiling lights of the clinic.

The owl is wrapped in what appears to be a tea towel, which has stripes in two shades of light blue and separated by thin lines of yellow. The light blue matches the scrubs of the examiner seen behind with a stethoscope draped around his neck.

This Ruru / Morepork in New Zealand was photographed during his pre-release examination. Information is limited but we know he spent some time at Wildbase hospital and then the rehabilitation centre before being successfully released.
