11th of Owltober!

Close-up of an exceptionally photogenic Great Horned Owl wrapped in a light grey towel. The person behind wears a black top with white polka dots, and braces the bundle fully with their arms. The owl has flattened plumicorns, a rounded brow, mottled brown and white feathers, and a pair of large intensely-yellow eyes that stare into the soul of the camera.

An adult Great Horned Owl with an injured wing was caught (after killing two chickens!) at a ranch in New Mexico. It was transferred to Tijeras for examination.

The bird had been holding its right wing out slightly before capture, but no obvious injuries were noted, so it was wrapped until a veterinarian could examine the bird.
Thank you [to] the Legacy Ranch employees who caught and transported the owl to us. And thank you to our funders who make Raptor Rescue possible.
