Fluffing Cute Barred Owl

A Barred Owl nestling is snug in the folds of a white towel inside a cardboard box. The owl is pictured from above, craning her neck upwards to face camera with an "are you my mother" type expression. Her beak is pale pink and yellow like a ghostly tequila sunrise in reverse. Eyes are black and feathers fluffy, tipped with white fuzz like a fungus... but cuter.

We picked up a nestling barred owl a couple of days ago after it was found on the ground in West Olympia. We looked around for a nest or parents, but didn’t see any other owl activity. Fortunately, the owlet is healthy and eating well. Since it’s important to raise young birds with others of their species for proper socialization, we will be sending the owlet to West Sound Wildlife Shelter this weekend to join their single owlet.
