Coda the Eastern Screech Owl

In sharp focus is an EASO (Eastern Screech Owl) with spectacularly fluffy rictal bristles i.e. whiskers above the beak, like a feathery moustache. His facial feathers are shades of light and dark grey—ash and charcoal—with a pair of grey-green eyes that match the muted sage green of the towel in which he is wrapped. He is facing the camera directly and held by the hands of a rehabilitator, separated by the green towel. Out of focus in the background top right is a display and electronics. The rest of the background is awash with more green, somewhere between pistachio and turquoise.

Hopefully this adorable “Hand t-OWL” will brighten your day!

Meet Coda, an Eastern screech owl, from BeWild Reptile Rescue! He came in to see Dr Locke for a well visit yesterday and a was soft, fluffy and nicely folded patient!

Coda was initially transferred to the BeWild facility in Nov 2022, noted then as “feisty and strong”, joining Sonata, another gray-morph Eastern Screech to begin work as ambassadors / educational owls.

Given the “Reptile” component of the clinic’s name, it would seem Coda lacks the features of its typical reptilian guests, but he looks very welcome all the same.
