An Australian Boobook owl has a glorious mane of feathers bursting from chin and chest, mostly hazel with streaks of honey and ginger. There's a deep earthy-brown mask around the outer sides of his eyes and a flash of cream across his beak and brow. Irises are dark grey-green like kombu seaweed. The rest of him is obscured by the platinum blue towel in which he's wrapped. A second yellow towel is laid behind. His expression is one of suspicion, and perhaps a little frustration at being unable to recoil his head from the photographer further than it already is.

More info from another post (assuming the same owl):

This beautiful boobook came into care after he was found being attacked by other birds. An examination of the boobook discovered that he had eye ulcerations.

After treatment and a further health check the boobook was ready for release 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Thanks to our wonderful volunteer Gail for releasing him back to his territory.

Fly be free!
