A grey-morph Eastern Screech Owl is wrapped neatly in a white towel upon a second towel laying flat across a clinic table. The rehabber behind wears a black hoodie and purple gloves. The hoodie is adorned with illustrations the same purple colour as the gloves, featuring five occult-themed animals: a fox, tarantula, moth, bat, and snake (the latter 3 are obscured by folds in the fabric). The full design, which websearch attributes to Steven Rhodes, includes the text "ADOPT A FAMILIAR" and smaller text below "Black Magic Animal Rescue". Which is simply excellent. Tucked ahead of the towel are two small plumicorn tufts, raised like cat ears. The Screech's eyes are narrowed at camera with an expression comprising 40% suspicion and 60% anger at having been put on display like a uramaki sushi.

The Raptor Center shared this cutie (an Eastern Screech Owl) in a post thanking supporters for helping them attend to record numbers of baby raptors during their 2025 season. TRC made special mention of their staff, volunteers, finders of injured birds, and the many generous donors who helped them meet their fundraising goals.

This amazing show of support comes as our case load continues to grow and the cost of care continues to increase, ensuring no compromise to the level of excellence in care all raptors receive in TRC’s hospital.

Needless to say, baby season is still in full swing, as we can expect to see more than 250 young raptors in need by the end of the summer. [Our] clinic will see an influx of nestling broad-winged hawks, Cooper’s hawks, merlins, and osprey in addition to recently-fledged bald eagles and peregrine falcons experiencing the challenges of learning to maneuver in the sky. Surpassing our fundraising goal guarantees the best care possible for baby raptors through the end of the ‘25 baby season. And remember, if you see a raptor in need, give us a call

Link to donate to The Raptor Center for those willing and able.
