An African Scops Owl patient is wrapped in a towel for treatment at the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre in Malawi. The mottled brown and grey owl is partially camouflaged within the folds of the taupe towel, but its ear tufts (a.k.a. plumicorns), whiskers (a.k.a. rictal bristles) and pair of curious olivine eyes give it away.

Celebrating some of the staff and animals at the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre on World Animal Day.

There’s not much additional information on this particular owl, so this will be a generic post in support of Lilongwe Wildlife Trust:

Established in 2009 this amazing rescue and rehabilitation centre has worked tirelessly to secure a future for Malawiโ€™s wildlife, particularly animals falling victim to illegal wildlife trade. Be sure to check their work to stop the poaching of Pangolins (the world’s most trafficked animal).
