At 20 miles out at sea (!) it’s possible this Short-eared owl was windswept, in search of food, or just plain lost. But then again SEOWs are known to travel long distances. Whatever the case this one was looking for a place to rest, and perched itself atop the fishing rod. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two fishermen in the video managed to the owl into a blanket, and later released it back at the Sarasota shore in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an aside, this post’s been doing the rounds online, and on one such round at r\/BeAmazed<\/a> somebody mentioned the subreddit for r\/owlsintowels. This one comment brought 1200 or so new subscribers – so thank you to u\/Virtu-92 for the shout out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
